چکیده

Cochrane KC, Housh TJ, Bergstrom HC, Jenkins NDM, Johnson GO, Schmidt RJ, and Cramer JT. Perceptual and Physiological Fatigue Thresholds during Cycle Ergometry. JEPonline 2014;17(5): 95-107. Thirteen subjects (mean ± SD age: 21.8 ± 2.6 yrs) performed an incremental cycling test and 4, 8-min submaximal rides (65 to 80% of VO2 peak) to: (a) compare power outputs and relative intensities that corresponded to the gas exchange threshold (GET), ventilatory threshold (VT), respiratory compensation point (RCP), physical working capacity (PWC) at oxygen consumption PWCVO2, heart rate (PWCHRT), and rating of perceived exertion (PWCOMNI) thresholds; and (b) examine the relationships among the fatigue thresholds and the exercise intensity domains. The RCP (184 ± 47 W) was significantly (P≤0.0033) greater than the GET (142 ± 38 W), VT (143 ± 40 W), PWCVO2 (106 ± 34 W), PWCHRT (108 ± 34 W), and PWCOMNI (112 ± 34 W). The GET and VT were significantly greater than the PWCVO2, PWCHRT, and PWCOMNI, but there were no differences among the PWCVO2, PWCHRT, and PWCOMNI. These findings suggest that the PWCVO2, PWCHRT, and PWCOMN fell within the moderate intensity domain, and share a common physiological mechanism that was different from those associated with the GET, VT, and RCP.

Restoration of peak vascular conductance after simulated microgravity by maximal exercise.

We sought to determine if (i) peak vascular conductance of the calf was reduced following prolonged exposure to simulated microgravity, and (ii) if maximal cycle ergometry performed at the end of microgravity exposure stimulated a restoration of peak calf vascular conductance. To do this, peak vascular conductance of the calf was recorded following ischaemic plantar flexion exercise to fatigue ...

Effects of auditory stimuli on electrical activity in the brain during cycle ergometry

The present study sought to further understanding of the brain mechanisms that underlie the effects of music on perceptual, affective, and visceral responses during whole-body modes of exercise. Eighteen participants were administered light-to-moderate intensity bouts of cycle ergometer exercise. Each exercise bout was of 12-min duration (warm-up [3min], exercise [6min], and warm-down [3min]). ...

Physiological Responses Underlying The Perception Of Effort During Moderate And Heavy Intensity Cycle Ergometry: 417 Board #254 June 1, 9: 30 AM - 11: 00 AM.

This study examined patterns of responses for physiological and perceptual variables during cycle ergometry at a constant rate of perceived exertion (RPE) within the moderate and heavy exercise intensity domains. Nineteen (mean age 21.3 ± 0.5 years; 43.4 ± 2.0 mL·kg−1·min−1 O ) moderately trained cyclists performed an incremental test to exhaustion and two 60 min constant RPE rides at the RPE c...

Assessment of the Static Component of Aerobic Exercise: A Comparison of Exercise Using Cycle and Treadmill Ergometry, Hip Extension Exercises With or Without Gliding, and Gliding Video Workouts

Four subjects, whose ages averaged 24.3 years, were examined to assess the isometric component of dynamic exercise during the following 4 conditions: treadmill running, cycle ergometry, aerobic exercise following a video, and during hip extension exercise (lunges). The isometric component of exercise was characterized by examining heart rate (HR) and blood pressure (BP), muscle fatigue, oxygen ...

Intensity-dependent tolerance to exercise after attaining V(O2) max in humans.

The tolerable duration of high-intensity, constant-load cycle ergometry is a hyperbolic function of power, with an asymptote termed critical power (CP) and a curvature constant (W') with units of work. It has been suggested that continued exercise after exhaustion may only be performed below CP, where predominantly aerobic energy transfer can occur and W' can be partially replenished. To test t...
